Ian, you have been posting about new high tech methods used by crooks to take things. I'll add one more: as I planned my two week vacation, I canceled the paper, had the USPS hold my (mainly junk) mail and did NOT post on my blog any of my upcoming travel plans.
Why tell "the world" your home would be vacant for 2 weeks?
Now I am back and will not be going anywhere for a while as I process through three 2 gig memory cards of pictures! Yes, that's more than 1,700 photos.

The last point is particularly worth noting. Why indeed tell the world that your home is going to be empty for a period of time?
